Description:

The engraved lock plate is marked "FULGER &/LAMB/WARRANTED". There are no additional markings. Fulger & Lamb (also seen Folger & Lamb) were hardware merchants active in the first half of the 19th century and retailed English manufactured gunlocks and other hardware as demonstrated by their advertisement in an 1825 issue of the Plattsburgh Republican. The rifle has other attributes of the early 19th century American long rifle including blade and notch sights and a full length stock with brass forend cap and other furniture, ornate patch box, checkered wrist, carving behind the cheekpiece, and a moon inlay on the cheekpiece. It has a wooden ramrod.

Rating Definition:

Fair as reconverted to Flintlock configuration. The barrel and lock retain a strong mixture of original brown finish and brown patina. There is oxidation and pitting isolated primarily at the breech and several minor dings and marks throughout. The brass furniture and patch box door (appears pewter) have an aged patina. The heavily worn refinished wood is also fair with some chips absent along the edges, a few minor cracks and repairs, and smoothed but visible checkering and carving. The lock is functional but weak. The marking and lock engraving are crisp.
