Barrel: 32 inch octagon
Finish: brown

Stock: walnut

Description:

The only visible markings on this rifle are the dog and game bird scene and "JOSEPH/GOLCHER" marking on the back action lock and the scrollwork on the hammer. The overall construction of the rifle is very unusual. From the front of the lock plate to the rear it has a slender design similar to a mid-19th century target rifle. From the breech to the front of the forend the rifle is considerably more bulky. The breech mechanism is opened by pressing down on a lever parallel to the bore and then rotating the breechblock to the right. The hammer appears to be modified from a percussion rifle. The barrel is threaded into a 2 inch long, round brass piece and gauges approximately at 32 CF. It has fixed blade and notch sights.

Rating Definition:

Good. The brass has an aged patina and the remaining metal surfaces have a brown mix of patina and original finish. There are some areas of light pitting and oxidation. The wood is very good with a nail repaired crack at the toe and some scratches and dings throughout. The action functions fine. This is an interesting and likely one-of-a-kind rifle.
