Description:

This early to mid 19th century musket is marked "R. Hysloh & Son" on the lock below the removable "waterproof" style flash pan. The "Son" is covered by the frizzen spring. Robert Hysloh (also seen spelled Huyslop or Hyslop) was an active merchant from the late 18th century to approximately 1850. The firm became Hysloh & Son in 1834. The barrel has a bayonet lug on top a few inches back from the muzzle and a simply engraving pattern on the breech end. The trigger guard, lock, and buttplate are also engraved. The nearly full length stock has a large, silver eagle plate on the right side of the butt, a checkered wrist, and silver escutcheons.

Rating Definition:

Very good. The brass and silver components have a well aged patina. The iron has an untouched original dark brown patina and some oxidation. There are some small chips, scratches, and dings. The wood is fine with crisp checkering, scrapes and dings, and a few hairline cracks some of which appear to have been repaired in period. The lock functions fine.
