Description:

According to the factory records survey information on page 100 of "The Rifleman's Rifle" only 0.34% of the pre-64 Model 70 rifles were chambered for the .358 Winchester cartridge. It is the rarest of the standard cartridges available in the Featherweight line. Only 2,000 of the 135,180 Featherweights produced were manufactured for this cartridge. For comparison, .270 Winchester Centerfire was the second rarest caliber with 22,992 produced. This example was manufactured in 1956 and has a beaded front sight with a stippled ramp and hood, a Lyman 16B fold down rear sight, receiver tapped for scope and peep sight mounting, standard late style safety and receiver tang, and a low/straight comb pistol grip stock with checkered forend and grip, sling swivels, and checkered aluminum buttplate. It comes with a matching numbered box and papers including hang tags.

Rating Definition:

Near excellent. The balance of rifle retains 98% plus of the original finish with some minor handling and storage marks throughout, numerous spots of surface rust spotting present on the top of entire receiver and bolt handle (writer is unsure of cause of damage), and a couple of slight scratches on the left side of the stock next to the action. The box is very good with minor storage wear.
