Description:

This is a very fine example of an early Model 1928 A1 Thompson submachine gun manufactured by the Auto-Ordnance Company under contract for the U.S. Military that has subsequently been refurbished. This weapon was originally manufactured circa 1942 under military contract as it has the initials "W.B." for Waldemar Broburg, over the Ordnance flaming shell proof on the left side of the upper receiver. Waldemar Broburg was the US Ordnance inspector located in the NY/Conn. District. It has the early blued, 10 1/2 inch barrel with cooling fins and blued, "CUTTS" marked Thompson/Auto-Ordnance compensator on the end. The parkerized upper receiver has the fully adjustable tangent rear sight. The receiver is marked on the left side "US MODEL OF 1928 A1/NO. AO 32362" and farther back "THOMPSON SUBMACHINE GUN/CALIBER .45 AUTOMATIC CARTRIDGE". The obverse is marked in two-lines "AUTO-ORDNANCE CORPORATION, BRIDGEPORT CONNECTICUT USA". The top of the receiver is stamped with the "Auto-Ordnance/Thompson Bullet" logo. The underside of the lower trigger housing is marked: "No.S-153354" indicating it was manufactured by the Savage Arms Company. It has the earlier style vertical, pistol grip forend and a detachable buttstock with an oiler inside. This desirable Thompson SMG is complete with five blued magazines, three 30 shot and two 20 shot blued WWII type stick magazines, an original 50 round Auto-Ordnance/Thompson marked drum magazine, three Kerr slings, an extra pistol grip, horizontal forend and buttstock with an original WWII Thompson Submachine training manual marked TM 9-215, dated October 1942.

Rating Definition:

Very fine as assembled (receiver does not match trigger assembly) 90% of its parkerized/blued finish overall with only minor edge and high spot wear and some thinning of the parkerize on the sides of the upper receiver. The pistol grip and buttstock are both in excellent condition with a nice medium brown color overall and minimal handling marks. The vertical pistol grips is in very good condition and is darker and shows more handling marks. The slings are in like new condition with the extra forend and pistol grip also in very fine condition with minimal handling marks while the extra buttstock is in very good condition showing normal heavier handling marks from field use. Note: This item is restricted as a National Firearms Act (NFA), Fully Automatic Weapon that is currently registered with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco Firearms and Explosives (BATF&E) that has been classified as a "Curios or Relic" as defined in 27 CFR, 478.11. These weapons are still subject to the provisions of 18 U.S.C. Chapter 44 and 27 CFR part 478.
