Description:

Introduced during World War II, the 1928A1 took the 1921 Thompson and upgraded the design, retaining the sturdy milled steel construction and deleting a number of the extra features as a war-expedient measures. Feedback from soldiers on the 1928A1 would inform development of the further simplified Thompson M1 and M1A1 SMGs. Collectively, the Thompson variants would be the most numerous American SMGs of the war, sought out by those with an eye for firepower and treasured among the weapons supplied to resistance forces by the Allies. Though in theory it should have been on the way out as early as 1944, the superb function of the Thompson and the quantity left over after WWII kept it banging away in the hands of American soldiers and marines through Korea and as late as the Vietnam War, with numerous allies (and enemies who got their hands on them), and with the Federal Bureau of Investigation into the 1970s. Fixed sights, with the "W.B." (Waldemar Broburg, New York/Connecticut District inspector) crossed cannon inspection mark and the U.S. nomenclature on the left side of the receiver along with the standard commercial markings, and the safety and selector switches on the left side of the trigger group. The forearm is smooth walnut with grasping grooves, with a finger grooved pistol grip and a quick-detach buttstock with steel buttplate. Magazine not included.

Rating Definition:

Fair as rewelded together/refinished/assembled, showing 90% of the current gray phosphate, with scattered deep weld pitting under the finish. The bright bottom of receiver is warped upward, exposing a gap between it and the trigger assembly. The wood is good, with mild dings and scuffs. Mechanically very good. PLEASE NOTE: In addition to being refinished, this item shows evidence of having been "reactivated" from a torch-cut receiver and trigger group, with a M1 replacement barrel and extensive reweld work around the chamber and behind the ejector port. NOTE: This weapon is registered as a National Firearms Act (NFA), Class 3, Fully Automatic Weapon, that is registered with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, (BATF) under the provisions of 18 U.S.C. Chapter 44 and 27 CFR part 478. This weapon does not qualify as a C&R, NFA weapon since it has been reactivated.
