This is an example of a early antique Model 1896 commercial Mauser Broomhandle Pistol. Blade front and tangent rear sights, with the top of the chamber marked "WAFFENFABRIK/MAUSER/OBERNDORF A/N", the left side is marked with a "crown/crown/U" German test proof, and an Oberndorf antler proof on the right flat. Milled recessed panels are present on the frame sides. Equipped with an unmarked cone hammer, an early style safety switch and 35-groove grips with a lanyard ring on the butt. With an unnumbered 1930 commercial pattern hardwood shoulder stock, stamped with a Mauser banner next to the nitre blue hinge, a World War I brown leather harness marked "Deutsche Signalflaggen Karlsrumein 1918" and a cleaning rod.

Very good as refinished, with half of the dull refurbished blue finish, showing areas of bright gray patina, mild edge wear, and scattered spotting and handling marks. Small brown patches are present on the left side of the magazine and in the right rear milled panel, with some darkening of the blue around them. Strong nitre blue is present on the small parts in the protected areas, with a mixed flat gray on the remainder. Grips are very good, with some dings and scuffs. The holster is excellent overall, and the harness is fine overall. Mechanically fine.
