Description:

Manufactured by Webley & Scott, the Wilkinson-Webley was produced as a semi-custom item for the Wilkinson firm (aka Wilkinson Sword) of Pall Mall, London, in a manner comparable to modern limited edition weapons ordered by American distributors and dealers. Most famous as a sword maker, Wilkinson also doubled as a general outfitter to Great Britain's gentlemen and officer corps, and a man ordering their service arm through Wilkinson would receive a well-finished revolver with notable mechanical improvements. Raised bead-blade front sight with a drift-adjustable "U" notch rear sight, marked "WILKINSON-WEBLEY, '05." on the left side of the top strap and "WILKINSON.GUNMAKERS.PALL MALL.LONDON.S.W" on top of the rib, in addition to the "WEBLEY/PATENTS" and "winged bullet" markings on the right side of the frame. Matching serial numbers are present on the frame, barrel and ejector, with the Wilkinson inventory number "2076" on the trigger guard and "E.G.K." engraved on the back strap. Fitted with a pair of checkered grips, with an unmarked silver inscription panel on the left side and matching numbers on the interior. While no information was supplied with the revolver on "E.G.K.", the presence of a small "broad arrow" stamp on the mainspring housing suggest that this may have been an officer's sidearm that received an in-field gunsmith repair.

Rating Definition:

Fine with 70% of the original high polish blue finish showing areas of mixed brown and gray patina, mild spotting and bright edge wear. A number of dings, dents and scuffs are scattered about, giving the impression of a hard-used but well maintained sidearm, with a particularly long takedown scratch running from the right barrel hinge up to the top of the rib and some primer scorching and chatter marks on the recoil shield. Grips are fair showing the same honest wear as the metal. Mechanically fine.
