Description:

This is an excellent example of a late production Model 1893 Borschardt pistol that was produced by the DWM factory. These are highly desirable and not encountered near as often as the Loewe produced example and are the direct predecessor to the DWM 1899/1900 Luger. Originally these pistols were marketed under the name WAFFENFABRIK/LOEWE/BERLIN however sometime in approximately 1895 that company merged with the Deutsche Matallpatronenfabrik of Karlsruhe forming the new company of DWM. Consequently this pistol is actually a later model, manufactured under the new name. The chamber area of the barrel extension is now marked in three lines: "SYSTEM BORCHARDT PATENT/DEUTSCHE WAFFEN-UND-MUNITIONSFABRIKEN./BERLIN.". The top of the toggle link is stamped "D.R.P./No. 75837". The pistol serial number "2230" is visible on the stock lug, the bottom of the pistol grip, the left side of the trigger, the left side of the toggle link, the rear underside of the barrel and on the wooden base of both magazines. The left side of the barrel has the standard Crown over B, U and G proofs, while the left front edge of the barrel extension, the left side of the breechblock and toggle assembly have the standard Crown over the "B and U" acceptance proofs. Originally these pistols could be purchased (at an additional expense) with additional components, stock, carrying case and extra magazines, however this example is only the pistol and the two matching nickel plated, wooden base magazines. The rear side of the frame has a small circular "Charkra" Siam proof mark.

Rating Definition:

Excellent with 98% of the original blue finish remaining overall. With some minor thinning of the blue on the front grip strap, mixed with some minor light scratches, with actual blue loss on the front edges of the frame rails, the cocking knob and the high spots of the front sight base/ring on the front of the barrel. The checkered walnut stocks are in excellent condition showing nice distinct checkering on both sides with only a few minor handling marks with a couple of chips in the checkering on both sides. The smooth border around the checkering retains 98% of its original varnish with only some minor handling marks. The rear of the action and stock lug all show 97% plus of the blue in that area indicating that it has not been used with a wooden shoulder stock. As noted this pistol has all matching numbers to include two original matching serialized magazines.
