This is an example of a very rare series II, "P" code commercial contract Luger with the horizontal Commercial "Eagle N" proofmarks, with a very low serial number. This very rare pistol is clearly described on page 228 and 229 of Gibson's excellent book on Krieghoff lugers and is included in the serial number data base contained in that book. It is estimated that less than "100" of these series II Commercial contract "P" code Lugers without the plate inscription, and horizontal proofmarks were ever made. It is assumed that these were a continuation of the early series I Commercial Luger however this serial number range falls into a group or series all by themselves. This specific pistol has the correct blank chamber area with the Krieghoff C-5 die markings on top of the toggle. This can be identified by the "I" in Krieghoff slightly in front of the "S" in Suhl with the slightly "v" shaped bottom on the "U" in Suhl, with the small anchor arms. The left side of the barrel extension, left frame rail, top of the breechblock and underside of the barrel all have the single Commercial "Eagle N" proofmarks, with the two on the frame and barrel extension being horizontally aligned. The pistol is correctly numbered in the commercial fashion with the complete serial number "P 39" stamped on the front of the frame with the left side of the barrel extension stamped with only number "39" with no other parts numbered except for the two matching magazines. The back side of the side plate only has two small Krieghoff eagle proofs. It is fitted with a set of the unmarked late production checkered plastic grips with one side being brown and the other side being black. The pistol is complete with one two matching numbered magazines. Both of which have nickel plated body with the Haenel SCHMEISSER PATENT markings. The aluminum bases on each magazine is marked with only the serial number "39". It is complete with an original black commercial holster with no markings or proofmarks and an original take down with a partially visible proofmark. This pistol has the high polish Krieghoff blue finish with the straw colored smaller parts.

Excellent with 99% original high polish blued finish overall with just some very, very minor edge wear with 99% of the original straw color on the small parts. The grips are in excellent condition with nice sharp checkering on both sides with just some minor handling marks on the edges. One grip is replaced as it does not match. The holster is in very fine condition with nice even black color overall with no scuff marks anywhere, with just some minor age cracking across the face of the leather in some area. This is an attractive Commercial "P" Code Krieghoff Luger.
