Description:

Produced by Mauser for use by the Royal Dutch Navy. While the Netherlands fell to the Nazis in 1940, the Government in Exile and the Navy continued to fight the Axis Powers, particularly in the Pacific Theater, during the Dunkirk Evacuation and D-Day in Normandy. Fixed sights, with "1937" on top of the chamber, the Mauser logo on the front toggle link, "crown/crown/U" proofs on the extension and breech, and the distinctive "RUST/arrow" marking above the safety lever. Fitted with straw finished small parts, checkered grips and a blued magazine with a hardwood base. This particular Luger is pictured on page 273 of "Lugers at Random" by Charles Kenyon.

Rating Definition:

Very good as partially refinished (cold blue present on holster wear points) with balance of pistol retaining 70% of the faded original blue finish showing areas of brown and gray patina, bright edge wear and scattered handling marks. Most of the serial numbers are matching, with the safety hardware unnumbered and the magazine 2 digits off at "2248"; while Lugers with collector-added replacement magazines are as common as stop lights, a replacement this close in number is suggestive of a swap during the original period of use. 40% of the original straw and nitre blue colors remain. Grips are fine with some scattered dings and dark spots. Mechanically excellent.
