Description:

Overall, this Luger follows the 1920 Commercial pattern very closely, with a set of fixed sights, "DWM" monogrammed front toggle, "crown/N" proofs in the appropriate locations, and a set of checkered grips. That said, the nickel-finished magazine appears to be left-over from an American export model, with a small "flaming bomb" stamp on the wooden base, and the left grip has been notched for a police-style magazine well safety, although the frame has not been cut to accept the device and the chamber is marked "VANKEINHOITOLAITOS" (Prison Service) over a 5-pointed star flanked by crescents and set on a radiant burst. Records are limited, but it is known that the Finnish Prison Service did stock and issue an assortment of sidearms, including German-made imports, in addition to permitting use of privately acquired sidearms. The absence of import marks suggests that it made it to America before 1968, but the exact circumstances of its service and ownership unfortunately appear to be lost.

Rating Definition:

Fair with traces of the blue finish, showing areas of gray and brown patina, scattered handling marks, bright edge wear and mild spotting. Some components are unnumbered replacements, and the front sight has been lowered. Grips are good, with mild dings and dark spots, and the magazine base is cracked. Hold-open needs adjustment, otherwise mechanically functions fine.
