Excellent Nazi German National Hunting Association Dagger with Scabbard, Frog, and Portapee

This "Jagershaft" dagger measures 18 7/8 inches overall and has a 13 inch bright steel blade decorated with an etched scene of four deer (1 stag, 3 does) on the left side, vine work on the spine, and a dog approaching two foxes on the right. No maker's marks are present on the ricasso, but the dagger shows signs of having been made by Weyersberg, Kirschbaum & Company. See page 145 of "Collecting Edged Weapons of the Third Reich, Volume II" by Johnson and note the similarity to "Model Number 1005" including the etching pattern and the use of a leather buffer pad. The hilt is furnished with darkened silver with a ribbed clamshell languet, a pair of deer hoof quillions, and a ribbed pommel cap with an acorn shaped nut. The grip is hand fitted with the Hunting Association crest (the Stag of St. Hubertus). It has a correct green leather scabbard with aged silver fittings, no visible stitched seam, a pigskin frog, and a silver and green portapee with solid acorn. The consignor states that this variation of the hunting dagger is so rare that he was unable to locate one like it in any reference books. The dagger is complete with matching frog, scabbard, and portapee are very difficult to find.

ConditionExcellent, with some mild spotting on the steel and minor handling marks overall. The blade is excellent with bright original polish. An attractive deep age color is present on the silver. The frog, sheath and portapee are all fine.
