Description:

This Colt Civilian Model 1860 Army's serial number dates to 1867. It features blade front and hammer notch sights, smooth "one-piece" grips, standard Colt markings, and matching visible serial numbers. The barrel, cylinder and back strap have a blued finish. The frame and hammer are casehardened, and the front strap/trigger guard is silver plated brass. The top of the back strap just behind the hammer has a well executed period gold inlaid emblem with three feathers above a crescent. The significance has not been identified, but the crescent moon is a symbol commonly used in Eastern Asia and North Africa and has been used since ancient times. The modern case contains a Colt's patent powder flask and bullet mold, two Eley Bros. cap tin with caps, package of "6 Combustible Envelope/CARTRIDGES" and several lead balls. It has a, "DIRECTIONS FOR LOADING COLT'S PISTOL", label on the interior of the lid.

Rating Definition:

Fine. 25% of blue finish remain in the protected areas and all of the gold inlay remains. The balance has a brown patina. The frame and hammer retain 40% of the subdued case colors and traces remain on the tail of the loading leaver. Strong silver plating remains in the protected areas and around the trigger guard. There are two filled holes on the trigger guard bow. There are spots of very slight pitting and oxidation scattered throughout. The replacement grips are very good with attractive grain, minor scrapes, a few chips and small age cracks, and some paint/residue on the bottom of the right panel. The action is excellent. The relined, relabeled custom case is very good with minor overall storage wear and a few hairline cracks. The accessories are fine.
