Description:

This is an example of a very scarce U.S. marked Ithaca training shotgun manufactured in the early years of World War II. It was shipped to Springfield Armory on December 5, 1941. These shotguns were produced for the military and are some of the scarcest military shotguns produced. It has the lightly engraved pheasant and duck scenes on the sides of the receiver. The upper left side of the receiver is marked "UNITED STATES PROPERTY". The upper left front is marked with a "P", "R.L.B." followed by the ordnance bomb. The "P" proof is also marked on the left rear of the barrel at the breech. The upper left rear of the barrel is marked with the address, patent number "MODEL -37" over "12 GA,-2 3/4 CHAMBER". It has the single bead front sight. The barrel gauges at cylinder choke. It has a checkered corn-cob pump handle and pistol grip stock with a black plastic grip cap and serrated Ithaca marked buttplate. There are no visible military acceptance marks on the stock. Length of pull is 14 inches.

Rating Definition:

Very fine overall. The barrel and major metal components have 85% of the original blue finish with scattered small dings, handling marks, and areas of high edge wear. Barrel and receiver have small areas of spotting and minor surface pitting. Stock is very good with attractive grain, some small areas of varnish loss, scattered small dents, and some flat checkering. Mechanically excellent.
