The included Colt factory letter confirms the 44 S&W caliber, barrel length, nickel finish with the type of stocks "not listed and special notation "old style." The revolver was shipped to Hunt and Whitaker of Monroe, Louisiana, on February 25, 1938 as part of a two gun shipment. The top of the barrel is marked with the two-line/three-patent date marking and the left side is marked "NEW SERVICE RUSSIAN AND/S & W SPECIAL 44". The Rampant Colt appears on the left side of the frame. The matching serial number is marked on the frame and crane. Standard blade front and frame notch rear sights, lanyard ring on the butt, and fitted with checkered grips with Rampant Colt medallions.

Extremely fine. The revolver retains 97% plus polished original nickel finish showing limited minor "pin-prick" pitting spots visible on high spots of cylinder flutes and right rear frame. The undersized replacement grips are also excellent with overall crisp checkering. Mechanically excellent.
