Description:

This is a beautiful example of a late prewar production Colt New Service revolver. The serial number of this pistol would indicate manufacture in 1935/36 with the rare 5 Inch barrel length. The top of the barrel has the last style of markings as follows; "COLT'S PT. FA. MFG. CO. HARTFORD, CT. U.S.A." over ;PAT'D AUG 5, 1884, JULY 4, 1905.OCT.5, 1926' and the left side of the barrel is marked "NEW SERVICE .38 SPECIAL". The left side of the frame has the large Colt Rampant Horse and is fitted with the rare 5 inch length barrel. Most of the barrels fitted to this model at this time were fitted with either the 5 1/2 or 7 1/2 inch barrel lengths. The grips are the late style with the raised diamond checkered patterns with the relief around the edges and the forward facing Colt silver medallions on both sides. It has the fixed front sight and rear notch in the frame and the top strap has been serrated and has a matte blued finish.

Rating Definition:

Excellent with 98% of the original Colt prewar blued finish with only minor edge wear and a very slight drag line on the cylinder that has not broken through the blue finish. The grips are also in near mint condition showing nice sharp diamonds overall with only one very minor flat spot or chip area on the right grip that covers about three diamonds. A beautiful example of a very early prewar revolver with a scarce barrel length.
