Description:

Manufactured in 1880. As stated in the chart on page 290 of "The Parker Story" by Gunther, Mullins, Parker, Price, and Cote, this shotgun is one of only five known from the Parker Brothers records to have been manufactured in this particular configuration of 28 inch Damascus steel barrels, grade 3 engraving, 16 gauge chambering with hammers. The included Parker Gun Collectors Association letter confirms the barrel length, chambers, date of purchase, and shipment as well as other details. With a single nickel bead sight on the smooth rib marked "PARKER BROS. MAKERS MERIDEN CONN DAMASCUS STEEL", 2 3/4 inch chambers and cylinder/open chokes. The casehardened side lock action features tight scroll engraved accents, hunting dogs on the side plates and a small game bird on the underside. Mounted on a fancy multi-point checkered splinter forearm with engraved hardware and round knob pistol grip stock, with a skeletonized steel buttplate and checkered naked butt. Length of pull is 13 3/4 inches.

Rating Definition:

Very good as period factory refinished and restocked as confirmed in the included letter. The barrels show strong Damascus patterning with areas of cleaned spotting, some light pitting, and clear markings. The left barrel shows a Damascus steel twist separation (crack) approximately 3 inches from the breech. The casehardened action has aged to a mostly silver/gray patina with light traces of original case colors in the protected areas and some light spotting. The wood is fine with smoothed checkering, a few deeper gouges, small indentations, and scratches. Mechanically very good.
