This is an example of a lever action Navy Pistol that was manufactured by the Volcanic Repeating Arms Company. The Volcanic Repeating Arms Co., manufactured an estimated 1,500 Navy Pistols with an 8 inch barrel between 1855 and 1857. The barrel flat is marked with the three line Volcanic Repeating Arms Company address, and the matching serial number is marked on the right side of the lever, left side of the frame under the grip and on the inside of each grip panel. This pistol has the distinctive octagon barrel with integral magazine, brass frame and the lever with round finger hole. The barrel/magazine had a blue finish, the hammer and lever were casehardened. The pistol has a brass cone front sight on the barrel and a dovetail mounted fixed rear sight mounted on the receiver. Fitted with smooth varnished walnut grips.

Very good as partially refinished (the barrel extension). The barrel extension has been added/replaced and currently has a smooth artificial mottled gray patina. The remainder of the barrel has a dark brown patina with scattered pin prick type pitting. The frame has a dark aged patina and the side plates have a lighter aged patina. The grips are very good with much of the original varnish remaining, and showing scattered minor dings, dents and scratches. The action needs work; the hammer does not hold a cock position. The barrel marking is clear.
