The carbine was originally manufactured circa 1863-1864 using the percussion system. It is one of the less common .50-70 conversions using original six groove barrels conducted in the late 1860s by Sharps for the U.S. government. At the time they were converted, broken or worn parts were refurbished or replaced and were then issued to cavalry units fighting in the Indian Wars. It has the standard blade front and Lawrence patent folding ladder rear sights and standard New Model markings. The stock has a crisp "DFC" banner cartouche on the left side

Rating Definition:

Very fine as arsenal refurbished. 90% of the blue finish remains on the barrel which as few minor scrapes and marks. The remaining components (receiver) have 60% casehardened finish with the balance a dark gray appearance. The wood is also very fine with some scrapes and dings. The action functions fine, and the markings are distinct.
