Description:

Developed circa 1901-1903 during the brief partnership between H.M. Pope and the J. Stevens Arms Company, the Stevens-Pope gallery conversion is a simple but well considered system. The barrel is dimensionally similar to the standard Krag, with a 22 caliber bore off-set upwards; this offset positions the cartridge to be fired and extracted by a standard Krag bolt, so no bolt modifications are required. While not a U.S. Army-issue item, the Stevens-Pope was acquired by National Guard/Militia units in multiple states. Patridge blade front and folding ladder rear sights, with "STEVENS-POPE" on top of the barrel and the standard U.S. nomenclature on the receiver. The cocking knob has been fitted with a short-range flip-up peep sight. Smooth straight wrist stock with a smooth buttplate.

Rating Definition:

Very good as period rebarreled/reconfigured. The barrel shows 90% high polish blue finish, with a few mild handling marks overall. The receiver has turned a mixed gray patina overall, with some brighter areas and traces of faint color. The replacement stock is very good, with a dent just beneath the magazine and a few mild scuffs and dings overall. Mechanically fine.
