Description:

This First Model Fluck Dragoon was manufactured in 1848 and is one of only 7,000 total produced. It is quickly distinguished from later models by its oval cylinder stops, and from the early Whitneyville-Hartford Dragoons and Walkers by the squared junction of the frame, grip, and grip straps. This particular revolver is a scarce variation which was first identified by a collector by the name of Fluck. What he identified was some unique Dragoons that had Walker like characteristics due to Colt using up left over Walker parts. There are also differences from the later models in the smaller components such as the larger screws, the wheel-less hammer, and the "folded" mainspring. It is marked with the matching serial number on most of the components (not visible on the barrel, wedge, or lever). The smooth walnut grip is a three piece replacement (two grips bonded to a central spacer). It has a blade front sight and hammer notch rear sight. The left side of the frame is marked "COLT'S/PATENT/U.S."

Rating Definition:

Fair. The revolver has a mottle gray-brown patina overall along with patches of oxidation and pitting, scratches, and dings. The front sight has been filed or worn down. The barrel lug has been period repaired due to flaw in metal. No serial number is visible. The wedge does not have a retaining spring. The brass has an appealing aged patina. The modern replaced grip is very good with only minor marks. The action functions very well.
