This pair of very fine highly ornate pistols produced by Offrey Galley in the early 19th century features gold inlays, chiseled silver furniture and silver wire stock inlays. The engraved lock plate features "OFFREY GALLEY" inside a gold inlaid oval surrounded by floral engraving. The rear of the lock is an engraved scene: a female goat and her kid. The hammer has floral engraving. The blue finished barrel features gold inlaid scrollwork on the top and upper left and right flats with double gold inlaid bands at the breech and muzzle. The left barrel flat is stamped with a "crown/M" proof near the breech. Equipped with a blade front sight, two leaf rear sight (one fixed, the other folding), and single set trigger. The pistol has silver chiseled furniture, which includes the barrel tang and thumb escutcheons, trigger guard, buttcap, and ramrod pipe finial. The furniture displays mostly military arm motifs. The side plate has a very unique scene depicting a dragon guarding military arms. The dragon's month is fully opened to engulf the screw head. The ramrod finial is a dragon. The large barrel tang escutcheon has a knight's helmet and flags. The full length stock is covered with inlaid silver wire scrollwork. There are two barrel wedges with silver oval escutcheons. The ramrod has an antique ivory tip. The rosewood case holds the following accessories: mallet, powder flask, oiler, cleaning rod with attachments, two cavity bullet mold, and combination tool. The pair was formerly in the Charles Draeger "Armes Anciennes" Collection.

Rating Definition:

Very fine. The barrel retains 95% plus original blue finish showing some thinning to a brown. The action has a smooth gray patina. The silver is fine. The stock is fine with some scattered minor handling marks. Most of the silver wire remains. Action needs work as set trigger does not function properly. The relined case is fair with a cracked lid, overall minor handling/storage marks, and high spot wear on the lining.
