Barrel: 9 inch octagon
Finish: bright/casehardened/blue
Grip:
Stock: walnut
Item Views: 2156

Catalog Page: 115
Class: Antique
Description:

The locks of both pistols are marked "SHARPE", and the barrels are marked "LONDON" and have pairs of cross scepter proofmarks on the upper left flats. Sharpe is listed in A. Merwyn Carey's "English, Irish, and Scottish Firearms Makers" as active circa 1800-1840. There is some light engraving on several components, and the trigger guards have engraved pineapple finials. The locks have sliding safeties, roller frizzen springs, and fenced flash pans. The full length stocks are smooth and have silver thumb pieces. Each includes a wooden ramrod with horn tip. The pair was likely owned by an English officer in the early nineteenth century. At that time it was common practice for officers to purchase their own sidearms.

Rating Definition:

Good as refinished. The barrel has an uneven brown patina mixed with a few areas of gray and some small patches of pitting. The lock has a gray patina and limited faint pitting. The other components have traces of blue finish and otherwise gray patina. The refinished stock is also good with a repaired crack on the right, a minor crack at the rear lock plate screw, and some minor dings and scratches. The lock functions very well, and the markings are clear.
