The lock plate is marked "BARBAR", and the barrel has two English "cross scepter" proofmarks on the left and "BARBAR LONDON" on top. The three-stage barrel has a 1 1/8 inch belled muzzle. The bore is estimated at 12 gauge. The smooth walnut stock has a "GHS" signed silver initial plate on the bottom behind the trigger guard tang. Barbar family gunsmiths were active in London from around 1717 to 1800. This example was likely produced circa the mid-18th century by James or Lewis/Louis Barbar.

Rating Definition:

Very good. The brass has an overall aged patina while the iron has a gray patina mixed with some brown patina and mild oxidation. The stock is also very good with scattered mild scratches and dings and a few repaired cracks on the forend. The lock function fine.
