Description:

This is rifle is Snider patent conversion Enfield rifle is likely a commercial sporting example as it has no broad arrow marks. The lock plate is marked with a "crown" behind the hammer and "SWINBURN&SON" ahead of the hammer. The breechblock is marked with "SNIDERS/PATENT". Birmingham proofmarks are found throughout. The barrel has a bayonet lug on the right side, a fixed blade front sight and a folding ladder rear sight. The nearly full length stock is held by two barrel bands with a forend cap and flat buttplate and the right side of the butt is marked with "17". Sling swivels are mounted on the front barrel band and on the lower tang. It includes a slotted ramrod/cleaning rod and a chained cover for the firing pin mechanism is connected to the front of the trigger guard.

Rating Definition:

Fine. The rifle has 50% blue with the balance a brown patina on most of the surfaces while the buttplate has a gray patina. There is some light pitting inside the breech and some minor marks and scratches overall. There is dark lacquer on some of the components. The dark finished wood is good as refinished with some small dings, chips, and scratches.
