Description:

Manufactured circa 1850. Parker, Field and Sons (1850-early 20th century) was the predecessor to Parker, Field & Co. (1840-1850). The left side of the pistol and one of the barrels are marked "PARKER FIELD & SONS". The right side of the action has "LONDON" in a banner. The barrels are numbered and English proofmarks are in the flutes. There is light engraving at the muzzles and on the bar hammer, and the action, trigger guard, and buttplate have English floral scroll engraving. All of the metal surfaces are casehardened. The grip is finely checkered walnut and has an unmarked silver initial shield. The buttcap has a cap compartment. The hardwood case has a Parker, Field & Sons label, fitted interior, and contains the following accessories: bore rod with screw on brush, oiler, several lead bullets, wood cap box, small powder flask, screw driver and bullet mold.

Rating Definition:

Very good as period refinished. The pistol has remnants of subdued case colors throughout and a mix of gray and brown patina. There are some spots of light oxidation. The proofmarks on the barrel group are partially obscured but the remaining markings and the engraving are distinct. The grip is excellent with sharp checkering and only minor marks. The action is functional but loose and out of time. The relined case is very good with minor storage wear, and the accessories are fine or better.
