Both of these pistols are marked "Par Brevet D'invention/BRUNEEL A LYON" on the lock plates. The patent breeches have gold inlaid scroll designs on the upper side flats and are grooved and fitted with notch rear sights. They have single set triggers. The swamped, Damascus barrels have finely grooved rifling and beaded front sights. The spurred trigger guards and remaining components are finished bright. The stocks have checkered grips, with carved borders on the flared butts, and golden thumb plates. Each has a shortened metal ramrod. They come in a modern case with a wooden mallet, bore rod, cleaning rod, cap holder, screwdriver, flask, and ball mold. Bruneel, also seen spelled Bruniel, was active around 1825 to 1850 in Lyon and supplied weapons and other goods to the French military.

Fine as refinished. The pistol has blue-brown blend on the barrel and lock and visible Damascus patterns. The bright components have some light patina. There are several dings and marks throughout. The stock has three pin repairs above the tail of the lock, a crack at the front of the lock extending down to the side of the trigger guard finial, crisp checkering, and some minor pressure marks. The lock functions very well, but the set trigger mechanism currently does not function.

Fine as refinished. The pistol has blue-brown blend on the barrel and lock along with some light spotting. The barrel has attractive Damascus patterns. The bright components have some light patina. There are several scratches and minor marks. The stock is fine and has crisp checkering and carving, small hairline cracks at the front of the lock and at the breech tang, some material absent around the bolster, and some light scratches and dings. The lock functions excellently, but the set trigger mechanism currently does not function. The relined case is very good with some stains on the lining and mild external storage wear including some chipping at the front right edge of the refinished lid. The accessories are very good.
