Description:

Martin Ruoff of Soleure (French) or Solothurn (German) Switzerland was active 1803 to 1839. The top of the barrels at the breech have gold inlaid "RUOFF" stamps, and the lock plates are marked "Ruoff. A SoLeurs" in stylized script. The upper tangs are numbered "1" and "2" respectively in gold inlay, and the underside of the barrels are marked "60" below "1" and "2". The pistols have blade and notch sights, scroll engraved hammers, floral accented bolsters, carved and fluted stocks, single set triggers, and hooked trigger guards. The top of the case has a brass plaque marked "FC" in gothic script. The interior of the case is French fitted to the pair and the following accessories: wooden mallet, screw driver, worm, cleaning rod, bore rod, powder measure, small flask, and container and has two compartments. A key is included.

Rating Definition:

Fair. The metal surfaces remain partially bright with some gray and brown patina. There are patches of pitting centered primarily at the breech. The front sight blade is broken/absent. The revarnished stock is also fair with a crack on the left side of the forearm and overall minor dings and scratches. The buttcap shows evidence of cleaning. The action is fine.

Rating Definition:

Fair. The pistol is primarily bright with areas of gray and brown patina. There are some spots of light pitting and spotting. The revarnished stock has a slight crack on the left at the forend above the carving and overall minor scratches and marks. The case and accessories are good with moderate storage type wear and a group of scrapes on the right side of the lid.
