Description:

Measuring 18 3/4 inches overall, with a 13 1/2 inch blade showing an irregular temper line and a niello silver plated copper habaki. The fittings show an interesting repeating asymmetrical decoration, with about half of the surface showing deeply cut floral engraving in silver, and the opposite half decorated in multi-colored gold filigree, with assorted animal and floral designs. The grip is wrapped in brown cord, with a pair of ho-o bird menuki, a brass panel featuring two fu-dogs is installed on the scabbard, and a single kogatana with 7-figure signature and silver accented brass handle is present in the saya. Included with the knife is a multi-color silk pouch with floral and geometric patterns, a loose and incomplete tassel, and a set of four kogatana handles (no blades) with fine raised decoration and inlaid/overlaid gold accents. The tang is unsigned, with a deeply aged color and two closely positioned mekugi-ana.

Rating Definition:

Fine. The blade shows patches of spotting, with some fading of the temper line and mild dings and scuffs on the kashira. The hilt is good, with some staining of the wrap, separation of the rayskin, and mild handling marks. Some chipping is visible on the saya, and a vacant kogai slot is present on one side.
