Description:

This is a good example of one the first issue 1906 Navy lugers that was altered to the second issue model by relocating the safety markings to the lower position and then it was reworked again after WWI where the barrel was shortened to 4 inch in compliance with the Treaty of Versailles. It has the undated/unmarked chamber area, with the standard DWM logo on the front toggle. It has the double "Crown/M" Navy proofs on the left side of the barrel extension. As noted it is correctly marked "GEISCHERT" in the upper safety area with the lower markings milled off. The barrel was probably shortened to the 4 inch length by a unit armorer as it retains the original barrel stub with the front sight and base rebanded on to the barrel, (slightly crooked). The rear grip strap was originally marked "W.W./610" and then during the Weimar era it was stamped on the front grip strap "I.S.B./289" and then after the rework it was stamped on the rear of the frame "D.R.K.10". It has the standard front sight blade and still retains its original two-position Navy rear sight and grip safety. It is fitted with the standard checkered walnut grips and it is complete with a tin plated Navy magazine with a wooden base that is stamped "6503".

Rating Definition:

Very good with 75% of an arsenal type refurbished blue finish on the majority of the luger with both the grip straps having been reblued and rear strap also showing some fine pin-prick pitting under the blue. The smaller parts retain 40% overall of their refurbished straw colors. The grips are in good condition with nice visible checkering on both sides, showing heavy wear across the tops of the checking mixed with some heavier handling marks on the left side. The upper right grip has a small crack starting at the top.
