Description:

This is a very unusual example of a DWM Model 1902 Commercial Luger pistol, assembled with an earlier style 1900 "long" frame. The serial number of this Luger actually falls into a post-1902 production cycle where it was manufactured after completion of the 1902 Test Eagles, cartridge counter and American Eagle commercial Lugers. It was actually produced using an earlier 1900 old style long frame that has the narrow trigger guard and trigger. Interestingly it was assembled with a short, fat barrel but still chambered in 7.65 mm Luger. These early 1902 Commercial Lugers with the fat barrel are very rare and desirable to Luger collectors as very few were actually produced with most made for sale in Europe and the U.S. As noted this has the leaf recoil springs, no stock lug, grip safety, dished toggles with toggle lock, but mated to a new style barrel extension. It has a blank chamber area with the front toggle correctly marked with the "DWM" logo. It has the full commercial serial numbered (24966) stamped on the front of the frame, and underside of the barrel, with the partial serial number "66" on the various small parts. There are no German Commercial proofmarks anywhere on the pistol. It still retains the first model safety with the correct polished lower safety area that is unmarked, with the "GELADEN" marked extractor. It comes with one nickel plated magazine body with the wooden base stamped "6792i".

Rating Definition:

Fine as arsenal refurbished with 85% of the blue finish remaining overall. The smaller parts retain 50% of their straw colors overall. The grips are in very good condition with distinct checkering overall showing wear across the tops of the checkering mixed with some minor handling marks. Mechanically excellent. An interesting early transitional variation of a Luger pistol!
