Description:

This is an interesting example of a 1906 type Luger produced by the DWM factory that has been subsequently converted into a cutaway Luger by an unidentified source. These cutaways were used to demonstrate all the internal working of the luger for both factory salesmen and for military unit armorers with this example having been thoroughly cutaway on both sides. It has a military style serial number on the frame and barrel. It has commercial serial number placement on the parts and it is fitted with a grip safety. The top of the chamber and barrel have been removed so there is no visible date on the chamber and it does retain the DWM logo on the front toggle. The underside of the barrel and left side of the breech bolt both have a single "Crown/N" commercial proof with no other acceptance proof. There are no acceptance proofs on the barrel extension indicating it was probably a commercial luger when it was cutaway. It has the standard front and rear sights, with "GESICHERT" and "GELADEN" safety and loaded markings respectively. The full military style serial number (8614i) is stamped on the front of the frame and underside of the barrel with no number on the barrel extension. Since this is a Model 1908 Luger it has no stock lug, however it has been fitted with the hold open device. It is complete with a tin-plated magazine with a unmarked wooden base. It has a blued metal finish with straw colored small parts and a set of walnut grips.

Rating Definition:

Very fine as modified with 90% of the non cutaway metal surfaces having a rust blued finish with wear on the edges and high spots. The smaller parts retain traces of their straw colors. The walnut grips are in very good condition with nice distinct checking on both sides, the right side shows some overruns or attempted freshening of the checking in a couple areas. The cutaway areas and edges are all in the white, with every mechanical area having been cutaway. Mechanically functions fine. Interesting example of a cutaway Luger pistol.
