Description:

This an early post WWI example of a 1920/23 era commercial luger that was assembled by the DWM factory under contract for the Stoeger Arms Company in New York, that has been fitted with a custom 8 inch artillery type barrel. This unique example has the desirable American Eagle Crest over the chamber area with the DWM logo on the front toggle. The barrel configuration is very similar to an original Artillery model however it has some slightly different contours and has a bright blue polished finish. It is stamped with a number "2" on the underside and it fitted with a standard front sight with a custom Artillery type rear sight. The right side of the barrel extension is stamped "GERMANY" followed by the roll marked: "A.F. STOEGER, INC./NEW YORK." marking. It has the standard "GESICHERT" and "GELADEN", safety and extractor markings. The frame has the early post war military style serial number followed by the letter "a" suffix, with an unnumbered barrel extension. The various smaller parts are numbered in the military fashion with "43" stamped on the side plate, trigger, take down lever, toggle train, right grip and breech bolt, with all other parts unnumbered. The left side of the breech bolt has the military Imperial Eagle proofmark. It has checkered walnut grips and comes with one, wooden base magazine stamped: "1247/b+".

Rating Definition:

Very fine as assembled by Stoeger with 70% of the original blue still remaining overall with the custom barrel having a high polish blue finish. The smaller parts retain 20% of their straw colors overall and the walnut grips are fine condition with nice distinct checking overall with light wear across the checkering mixed with some minor handling marks on the right side. Mechanically excellent. Overall a nice looking A.F. Stoeger Luger with long barrel.
