Description:

Commercial contract Mauser Banner Lugers were manufactured from 1935 to 1942, intermixed with the production of Military/Police Lugers. This example has the "G" marked chamber area indicating that it was manufactured in 1935, as it has the Mauser factory "Crown/U" commercial proofs, that were only used in 1934 and early 1935. The commercial proofs are stamped on the left side of the barrel extension and underside of the barrel, which correlates to the production date. This example has an unusual 4 5/8th inch long fast tapered barrel that was used on the earlier Portuguese and Swiss contract Lugers. These early commercial Mauser Banner Lugers are very desirable and highly sought after by collectors, as only a couple hundred were actually manufactured during the first few years of production as the Mauser production was dedicated to the military and police contracts. They all feature fine workmanship, with a beautiful rust blued finish and straw colored smaller parts. The extractor and safety are marked "GELADEN" and "SEGURANCA" respectively, with standard sights. Writer believes this once to have been a GNR (Portuguese) Luger that had the "G" added. Included is a replacement blue sheet metal magazine with a repinned wooden base restamped "2246."

Rating Definition:

Very fine as professionally restored/remarked with 98% of the blued finish overall with edge and high spot wear only. The smaller parts retain 75% of their straw colors overall fading on the sides of the trigger and safety lever. The grips are in fine condition with nice distinct checkering overall showing some minor handling marks and light pressure dents on the right grip from being a holster.
