Description:

Manufactured as part of the final Navy production block of 1912, this Model 1911 pistol bears the scarce "MODEL OF 1911. U.S. NAVY" (serrifed) marking on the right side of the slide; while the 1911 as the U.S. Navy sidearm of choice for decades, the practice of marking the pistols explicitly for the Navy was discontinued much sooner. Fixed sights, with the two line, two block Colt patents and address on the left side of the slide ahead of the Rampant Colt, "UNITED STATES PROPERTY" and "WGP" (Penfield) on the left side of the frame. Fitted with a round-top rear sight, long smooth trigger, wide checkered hammer, short grip safety, checkered slide stop and thumb safety and flat mainspring housing with lanyard staple. Checkered hardwood grips with diamond patterns around the screws and a full blue barrel marked "S/P" on the lug. With an early pattern brown leather holster, with a brass hinged swivel hanger, brown leather tie-down belt, and "US" stamped on the flap.

Rating Definition:

Good as period refinished with 40% of the dull blue finish showing areas of brown and gray patina, particularly on the grip straps, with some bright edge wear, scattered spotting and shallow pitting, and light handling marks. The name "R Wilkinson" has been elector-penciled into the slide and magazine, and the initials "RW" into the frame; no information about Wilkinson was provided by the consignor. The grips are heavily worn with some chipping and wear. The holster is fair with some tearing of the hanger, stitching loss, cracks and scuffs. Mechanically excellent.
