Description:

During World War II, L.C. Smith is known to have provided just over 1,500 double barrel shotguns to the U.S. military for use in gunnery training. The serial number range is from 197321 to 202813 as noted on page 203 of "L.C. Smith Shotguns" by Brophy. This particular field grade shotgun is squarely within that range. The guns were shipped to the Rochester Ordnance District in Rochester, New York, where they received the flaming bomb ordnance marks and "RLB" inspection marks on the barrel flats. With dual brass bead sights on the matte rib, standard L.C. Smith/Hunter Arms markings over the chamber, 2 3/4 inch chambers and improved modified/full chokes. With standard markings on the casehardened side lock action, double triggers and tang mounted automatic safety. Mounted on a checkered walnut forearm and pistol grip stock with a hard rubber grip cap and serrated hard rubber buttplate. Length of pull is 13 7/8 inches.

Rating Definition:

Excellent with 95% plus original blue finish on the barrels remaining, some light muzzle wear, scattered small dings and light scratches. The frame shows 90% of the original muted case colors with areas of light gray patina, mild spotting and general handling marks. The wood is excellent with sharp checkering, scattered small indentations and some surface scratches. Mechanically excellent.
