This Model 1885 Highwall sporting rifle was manufactured in 1893 and has the standard Winchester markings, blade and adjustable sporting sights, a smooth forearm with ebony Schnabel tip insert, and a straight wrist stock with standard rifle buttplate. Introduced in 1885, Winchester's .40-82 cartridge was designed to handle North America's big game and succeeded in earning a positive reputation with hunters of elk and moose and was also used against bears.

Rating Definition:

Fine. 60% of the faded original blue finish remains, and traces of original case colors remain on the other components. The balance has a dark gray patina. There is some mild pitting at the muzzle, slight spotting, minor edge wear, and scattered minor marks. The wood is also fine with small scrapes and pressure marks. The action is excellent, and the markings are crisp.
