This is a Winchester Model 1873 with the dust cover base integrally machined as part of the receiver. The upper tang is marked "MODEL. 1873.". The serial number is on the lower tang and the bottom of the brass cartridge elevator is marked "22 CAL/SHORT". Dovetailed folding globe front sight and adjustable buckhorn rear sporting sight. Blue finish with casehardened hammer, lever, forend cap and buttplate, and mounted with a smooth walnut forearm and straight grip stock with a crescent buttplate. Winchester manufactured approximately 19,552 Model 1873s in .22 short or .22 long between 1884 and 1904.

Rating Definition:

Very good. The barrel and magazine tube have traces of blue with the balance a smooth mottled brown patina. There are several dings on the barrel, mainly concentrated in the area of the address. 30% of the original blue finish remains on the receiver with edge wear, and areas of smooth gray and plum patina. Much of the faded original case colors remain on the hammer. The lever has a smooth dark patina, and the buttplate and forend cap have a mottled gray patina with some minor spotting on the tang. The wood is good with a small gouge on the bottom of the forearm and on the right side of the stock and overall some scattered minor dings and scratches. The markings are clear. The action is fine.
