Manufactured in 1887. This rifle has the Third Model integral dust cover rail and dust cover with serrated edges. The top barrel flat is marked "WINCHESTER'S REPEATING ARMS. NEW HAVEN. CONN. U.S.A./KING'S IMPROVEMENT PATENTED MARCH 29. 1866. OCTOBER 16. 1860" and "44 WCF." at the breech. The bottom of the brass cartridge elevator is marked "44 CAL" in script letters. The serial number is stamped in script on the lower tang behind the lever. It features pinched blade front and a rear adjustable semi buckhorn sporting sights. The upper tang is marked "MODEL 1873" with foliate designs. Blue finish with full magazine and casehardened hammer and lever. Mounted with a smooth oil finished walnut forearm with steel end cap and straight grip stock with a casehardened crescent buttplate with brass trapdoor (cleaning rod absent).

Very good plus. The rifle retains 25% plus of the original blue finish mottling to a smooth brown patina with scattered scratches and dings. The receiver has a few minor areas of light pitting. The markings are clear. The wood is very good with scattered scratches, dings and pressure dents. The buttplate has some minor pitting. Mechanically excellent.
