Percussion Conversion Smoothbore American Long Rifle

Manufacturer: Kentucky
Model: Percussion
Type: Rifle
Gauge: 52
Barrel: 44 inch octagon
Finish: brown
Grip:
Stock: maple
Item Views: 3314
Serial Number:
Catalog Page: 108
Class: Antique
Description:

This rather unassuming long rifle has no signature on the barrel and is stamped "SWEITSER" on the lock. The barrel has rifle style sights but has been bored smooth possibly after the rifling was worn down. It would have been a common man's gun unlike some of the incredibly ornate long rifles of the "Golden Age" or many of the ornate percussion rifles of the mid-19th century.

Rating Definition:

Good. The iron components have dark brown patina, mild oxidation, flash pitting, and minor marks and scratches. The brass has aged patina. The side plate and lock screw are replacements. The forend cap and front 17 1/2 inches of the forend are spliced on, and the otherwise very good stock also have marks and scratches.
