Though many of us would find the idea of defending ourselves with a single shot pistol with rudimentary sights and an anemic cartridge unfathomable, small pocket derringers like this were very popular in the late 19th century and even early 20th century. Hundreds of thousands were produced by several manufacturers. Colt manufactured 48,000 of these Third Model or Thuer derringers between 1870 and 1912. The example has the standard markings and features as well as small English proofs and is in surprisingly excellent condition.

Excellent overall. 97% plus of the original nickel plating and even the majority of the original bright niter blue finish and case colors remain. There is some light spotting/pitting and minor overall handling and storage marks. The otherwise excellent grips have some minor edge and handling wear. The action functions fine, and the markings are distinct.
