The accompanying factory letter confirms the caliber, barrel length, factory engraving and nickel finish. It was shipped to Hartley & Graham on December 24, 1890 as part of a 3 gun shipment. The factory scrollwork on a punch dot background is engraved on the sides of the barrel and frame. A fan type engraving is featured on the recoil shields/loading gate. Engraved zig zag lines and dots appear on the sides of the trigger guard, sides of the frame, top strap, rear of the cylinder and grip straps. Star burst patterns and scrollwork alternate on the cylinder flats. The top of the barrel has the two-line Hartford address inside a fancy engraved panel. The left side of the barrel has "COLT DA 41" inside a banner. The left side of the frame has the three-line patent dates marking in a simple panel. Matching serial number on the frame and grip straps with the assembly number "132." Fitted with smooth bird head pearl grips.

Very fine. The revolver retains 85% plus original nickel finish with the balance a smooth gray patina. The engraving is crisp. The screw heads and cylinder pin catch retain 90% original niter blue finish, and traces of original niter blue finish remain on the hammer. The grips are also very fine with a hairline crack on the left panel. Mechanically functions in double action, but does not have a full cock notch for single action.
