Description:

McDermott's shop in Dublin was active from 1790 to 1840 and has been noted for its flintlock coach pistols. Many surviving Irish pistols were designed as "travelling" or "coach" pistols and have large smooth bores and short overall construction. This early 19th century pistol has Damascus barrels and advanced flintlocks with roller frizzens and sliding safeties marked "MCDERMOTT" and "DUBLIN" and has a small front sight blade near the muzzle, silver thump plate on the bag shaped stock, light floral engraving, and a wooden ramrod.

Rating Definition:

Good. The metal surfaces display gray and brown patina and some light pitting. The silver has a deep aged patina. The stock is also good and has partially smoothed checkering, some minor dents and scratches, and a very slight hairline crack at the tail of the left lock. Mechanically functions both locks with the right hammer spring being very weak.
