A) Tryon Marked Back Action Saw Handle Duelling Pistol

Manufacturer: English
Model: Percussion
Type: Pistol
Gauge: 54
Barrel: 8 inch octagon
Finish: brown/casehardened/bright
Grip:
Stock: walnut
Item Views: 1508
Serial Number:
Catalog Page: 191
Class: Antique
Description:

This pistol's lock is signed "TRYON" near the tail and has engraving and a sliding safety. The barrel is signed "London" in fancy script on top and has "IA," a pair of English proofs, and "L159" on the lower left flat. The fixed sights, smooth bore, "saw handle" stock, and single set trigger are all indicators the pistol was designed for duelling. The pistol has floral engraving, and the stock has a small cap compartment in the butt. A pair of similar pistols are pictured and discussed in the paper "100 Years of Tryon" by Robert A. Sadler.

Rating Definition:

Faint traces of original Damascus/English twist patterns are found in the protected areas on the bottom of the barrel. The remaining iron surfaces are mostly bright, and German silver accents display aged patina. The revarnished stock is good and has light scratches, a few dings, mostly crisp checkering, and a minor modification on the point up top. The lock is functional but has no working half cock notch. The markings are crisp.

B) Conversion Pistol by Michel Berleur

Model: Percussion
Type: Pistol
Gauge: 54
Barrel: 7 inch round
Finish: bright
Grip:
Stock: walnut
Item Views: 1508

Catalog Page: 191
Class: Antique
Description:

This pistol has a converted lock marked "M Berleur" below the bolster, a Damascus barrel with fixed notch sights and a Liege proofmark, dog engraving on the trigger guard and butt, and a checkered grip with silver stud accents.

Rating Definition:

Good. The pistol had a blend of brighter surfaces, mild pitting, light Damascus patterns, and minor oxidation. The stock is also good and has mostly crisp checkering, scattered dings and light scratches, and a repaired crack in the forend. The lock functions fine, and the markings are mostly crisp.
