Description:

This carbine is one of the carbines assembled by Ball & Williams after the collapse of Dwight, Chapin & Company given the fully round barrel, caliber, serial number on the left side frame, two-piece "split breech" breechblock, lack of Ball & Williams or other manufacturer markings, and the large rounded frame profile. All Dwight, Chapin & Company manufactured frames known fall into the 1-1800 serial number range, and all of the assembled carbines were purchased by the State of Kentucky. This example has a blade front sight, two leaf rear sight, manually operated extractor, the Ballard patent marking on the right side of the frame, Merwin & Bray agent marking over "929" on the left side of the frame, smooth stock and forearm, and sling swivels on the middle band and bottom of the butt.

Rating Definition:

Very good. More than 25% of the original blue finish remains. There are numerous vertical scratches on the right side of the action and areas of blended gray and brown patina throughout. There are also some small spots of light pitting/oxidation. The wood has some small dents and minor marks. The action functions fine, and the markings are identifiable.
