Description:

This is an excellent example of a WWI DWM Model 1908 Military contract Luger pistol. The Model 1908 has three distinguishing features: 1) they were originally made without the hold-open device, 2) they don't have a stock lug on the frame, and 3) they were military proofed and were dated from 1908-13. Additionally, these late 1911 dated Lugers were the first military contract Lugers to have all their parts numbered on the outside versus the earlier ones that had a commercial style numbering. The chamber area is dated "1911," and "DWM" is marked on the front toggle. The pistol has the correct military proofs on the right side of the barrel extension and the remaining various parts. This desirable Luger has had the hold-open device arsenal modified in the frame, and it is correctly proofed on the right side next to the hold-open pin. The full serial number "9544" is stamped on the barrel, barrel extension, and frame. The last two digits "44" are on the various other parts. It is correctly marked with "GELADEN" and "GESICHERT" on the extractor and safety area. It is fitted with matching checkered walnut grips. It comes with a tin-plated magazine with an unmarked wooden base.

Rating Definition:

Excellent with 97% of the blue finish overall with only minor edge and high spot wear. The smaller parts retain 90% of their original straw colors fading on the edges and high spots. The grips are also in excellent condition with nice, distinct checkering on both sides showing only minor handling marks. A very nice looking, late 1911 dated Imperial Luger pistol.
