Description:

Manufactured in Belgium, this pistol was manufactured to accept a scarce shoulder stock, with a thin slot cut through the back strap and an altered mainspring to accommodate a spring-loaded catch, and the standard lanyard staple on the butt serving as a mounting point for a fixed hook. Similar stocks, both as aftermarket items and factory options, went through waves of popularity through the 19th and 20th centuries on both military and civilian handguns. Aside from the stock adaptation, the markings and features of the pistol are standard for a commercial Bergmann, with fixed sights, Liege proofs on the barrel, extension, frame and bolt and the serial number on the underside of the frame, front of the magazine and right side of the safety. In overall shape the stock resembles the famous design of the Mauser Broomhandle and FN High-Power stock holsters, though instead of being made of hollow wood this example uses a walnut shaft as the structure for the mounting iron and the main body is black leather with concealed panels (possibly steel) to lend rigidity and strength with a brown leather shoulder strap and a short brass hook to catch on a belt.

Rating Definition:

Fine as professionally refinished, with 98% of the blue, showing some light edge wear and handling marks on the exterior, as well as some pitting beneath the finish. The grips are good, with some chips and dark spots concentrated along the edges. The stock is good as repaired, with some mended cracks on the wood and scuffs on the leather. Mechanically excellent.
