This is a very rare early Turkish contract Model 1896 Mauser semi-automatic pistol that is complete with its original back presentation case and very rare early "putzstock" combination cleaning rod/takedown tool. There were approximately 1,000 of these pistol sold to the Ottoman Empire with very few ever released. This specific pistol was produced mid-way, and it has all Turkish serial numbers. The top of the chamber is marked: "WAFFENFABRIK, MAUSER, OBERNDORF A/N" with the left side stamped in farsi "688" as well as all the remaining visible parts. This model has the deep milled side panels and frame rails with the rear left panel having the large tughra Seal of the Ottoman (Turkish) Empire over the Muslim year 1314. It also has the early long extractor early style dovetailed firing pin retainer, and non-reinforced chamber area. It is also fitted with the correct rear sight marked in Turkish that is graduated from 1-10 (100-1,000 meters). It is fitted with a set of 23-groove, walnut grips that are numbered "6741" on the back sides. The base of the frame has the lanyard ring stud and ring. It comes in an original black leather covered storage case with red felt lining. As noted this rare contract pistol is complete with the "putzstock" combination cleaning rod and takedown tool. Fine as semi-professionally restored currently showing only very minor edge wear. The markings are clear and sharp to include the tughra seal. The walnut grips are in fine condition with only minor handling marks. The case is also in very fine condition with 90% of the leather surface still complete and only minor edge wear. A scarce Mauser Turkish contract Model 1896 pistol.
