This is a fine example of a late post WWI standard commercial Model 1896 Mauser pistol. This model was a continuation of the same pre-war style pistols, only made after WWI. This specific pistol has the smaller bolo style frame with the small grips and small ring hammer. The top of the chamber area is marked "WAFFENFABRIK/MAUSER/OBERNDORF A/N" with the serial number on the right side of the chamber area. The right side of the frame has the two line markings of: WAFFENFABRIK MAUSER/OBERNDORF A. NECKAR" and the left side has he small Mauser banner logo. It has the shorter length barrel with the banded front sight with a fixed front sight blade and an adjustable rear sights graduated from 50-1000 meters. There is a double "crown/U" commercial proof on the left side of the chamber area and the rear flat of the bolt. It is fitted with a set of walnut grips with 22 grooves on each grip. It has a rust blued finish with all heat blued smaller parts.

Excellent with 98% of the blued finish overall with only minor edge and high spot wear with some browning on the very front lower edge of the frame/floorplate area with a small spot of pin-prick pitting in the center of the right side frame rail. The grips are in excellent condition with only minor handling marks, directly in the center of each grip.
